The estimated average person consumes about ¼ kilogram of plastic every day, nearly entirely single-use plastic. These plastics mainly end up in either the oceans or land fill, greatly deteriorating soil and killing a lot of our ecosystems and animals. It is said that there is about 580,000 pieces of plastic per square kilometre in the Atlantic ocean alone!

It doesn’t stop with the death of sea life. As more and more plastic enters our oceans and are eaten by fish, whales, dolphins and seabirds, more and more microplastics are making their way into our bodies through consuming these animals. This ultimately is causing a direct impact on the health of human beings.

Cling film is at the top of the most hazardous plastics currently produced. The chemicals used in creating cling film, along with many other harmful chemicals include polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is the most toxic plastic for both our health and the environment. Fumes let off into the air during production of this plastic have direct links to cancer, including birth defects, skin diseases and deafness, as well as liver and spleen problems. Additionally, Bisphenol A (BPA), another chemical used in cling film, plastic sandwich bags and plastic containers are reported to also create a range of health problems, including birth defects to male and female reproductive systems. These, and other harmful chemicals and leached into our food and water, both during production stages and post production.
